I don't know the regular holiday, so I'm probably going to go to the museum holiday (Monday). There is Shimomachi Museum in front of the intersection and there is Kanei-ji Temple nearby, so the weather is nice and why not take a walk around?
I do not know what I am doing in the morning. There was no menu. I waited for half an hour at around 15 o'clock on Sunday.
Breakfast sets were great, a good bargain too as u can minus 100yen to pair a sandwich with a drink. Egg sandwich is definitely their signature dish, the soup that comes along the breakfast set was a surprise tho the size was tiny - really tasty!! Matcha latte was very rich and smooth. Love this cozy place with Japanese seating upstairs! Will revisit for sure!! The location was not the most convenient which is true but we drove there so was fine - tips for parking is to park at the nearest 7-11 and u can enjoy 90 mins free parking for any purchase at 7-11. We think it's a superb offer compared with average hourly parking nearby.
Such a cute place. It feels like an authentic local coffee place. Great egg sandwich too.
Lovely staff and cozy place with the nice coffee
Amazing coffee and cakes!
Had the green tea gateau - delicious! Coffee best so far in Tokyo.
Cosy, old building of wood on a busy corner. Not very many seating places downstairs, but with more upstairs. However, before going upstairs you have to remove your shoes and you sit on the floor on pillows at low tables. Very good egg sandwich and coffee. The mate cake was a little boring, but I ate it. :)
How to say enough good things about this place! Adorable, historic, delicious. 💯 worth a trip. Was plenty of seating when we arrived and opted for a table downstairs although also tatami area upstairs. Quick walk to Ueno park and approx 20-30 min walk to Senso-ji. ✅ Seasonal drinks - opted for the cherry blossom matcha latte. ✅ Classic coffee - perfection ✅ sandwiches - with salad and soup for dipping or sipping ¥100 off sandwich special with any drink 💰2 sandwiches & 2 drinks approx $20💰
This is actually where I had my first ever espresso. I drank many since, but if it wasn’t for the tasty espresso from Kayaba as the first one I might not have continued drinking the black stuff. Their orange coffee tonic was a discovery for me too. The place is a bit out of the way, but you’ll feel welcome as soon as you step in.
Good location, historical two floor building. Ginger drink is impressive, with characters but won't be too strong, balance nicely. Food isn't fancy but price isn't expensive so it's a good choice when you have wandering this area by foot. It could be a long queue waiting outside. They don't force you to share table with others so there is chance one person occupied a 4 ppls table. Be courteous to leave earlier in this case, so the others won't wait too long.
Wow! I came here upon recommendation and couldn’t have been happier. The egg sandwich was amazing. The coffee was perfect. The staff were friendly and the location was peaceful. Great choice for breakfast in the Ueno area.
Good Japanese Coffee. Retro and nostalgic. Sandwiches and food are yummy!
Green tea lattes! A cozy, inviting cafe. I recommend sitting upstairs for a more intimate experience of sitting at tables on the floor. Perfect place for an extended coffee/tea date with a friend. Lovely artwork inside as well. Highly recommended!
Very good coffee and cakes. Nice atmosphere in this old House and nice staff.
Probably the best breakfast I had during my recent trip to Japan. The morning set was a great value and the egg sandwich was out of this world. They also had very very good coffee. The service was extremely friendly and helpful. English menu is available. You may be asked to wait a bit for a table, but I recommend you do. The food, coffee, and atmosphere are worth it!
A cute coffee spot just outside of Ueno Park with English menus. The matcha lattes were great and breakfast sets come at a very reasonable price. I happened in on a weekday morning so there was no wait
honestly just go and enjoy the second floor. Its tatami floor with tables and cusions to sit on.. drink some tea or coffee and chill! they made point you to a table on the first floor but juat asked them to be sat upstairs!
A very nice coffeeshop! The egg sandwich tastes amazing. Coffee is good, too. Friendly staff. Try to get a seat on the first floor.
We loved the coffee, macha, sandwiches and cake. What a lovely place.
Wonderful coffee shop with delicious breakfast sets such as eggs over toast. The coffee is superb. ☕ï¸
Without a doubt the best coffee I've ever had the pleasure of drinking. The baristas latte was exceptional, and the food was great to boot! Phenomenal spot!
Fantastic coffee shop just 7 minutes from Nippori JR, or slightly further from Ueno JR. There was a queue, but it was worth the wait. The staff are wonderfully kind and attentive, and the food was delicious. The coffee was fantastic as well, a must when visiting. Expect to spend ~1000Â¥ per person for a drink + snack. The building is lovely, with a traditional tatami mat / low tables with cushions upstairs, and a more conventional tables and chairs downstairs.
Lovely coffee on the way to Ueno.
I may have been expecting alot more on aesthetic because of the ratings, but the cakes and hazelnut hot cocoa drink was amazing! Worth stopping by for at least once, but plan on waiting a bit depending on where you are standing in the line outside. The lines get very long, very quickly. Also, you might be standing close to the intersection of the street. But if you have time to kill, It's oh-so-worth-it with a good friend or significant other. Warning: not a good place for a large group.
Perfect coffee spot in a very non-touristy yet beautiful and ancient part of town. We passed by so many small and serene temples on the way here. We thoroughly enjoyed sitting on tatami mats on the second floor, where there's also a bookshelf free for all to use. If you happen to be here before noon, try the morning set, with coffee, toast, and eggs (or some other items, there are many choices to choose from!) - you'll be guaranteed to have a full stomach. The coffee and tea here are both excellent.
Visited the cafe on a Friday morning, there wasn't any crowd. The stairs to the first floor was rather steep and you'll need to remove your shoes once you're up. It's a small quaint cafe, the green tea latte was delicious, however the cafe mocha was mediocre for the price of ï¿¥650. If you would like to have coffee in a traditional Japanese cafe, definitely visit Starbucks with tatami in Ninenzaka, Kyoto.
The restaurant is very cute and in a quiet rural area. I ordered the egg sandwich and the egg on toast and both were so simple yet so delicious! I also highly recommend trying their coffee, I ordered a black coffee thinking ‘how could this taste any different to other black coffee’s?’ I was wrong. The seating downstairs is more modern but if you’d like a more traditional setting then ask to be sat upstairs, where you’ll be sitting on tatami :)
The outdoors is not marked Kayaba in English but we relied on Maps that we had found the place. This is not a quick service cafe, but more of a sit and brunch place with few spots. We had to wait outside for a little while before we were seated in the tatami area upstairs. Latte was great and the egg toast and egg sandwich were yummm
This old coffee house was since 1938. 1st floor has 4 tables and 2nd floor also has 4 or 5 tables but you have to take off shoes and sits down oriental style no chairs. This is beautiful and authentic house to stop by when you are in Nippori. Strongly recommended.
Cute little coffee place. No grab and go. Must sit down and enjoy. Simple menu. Coffee around 500Â¥
Bad experience. The service is a little bit rude. The quality is really low. They say that they serve ‘butte’ toast but it’s not butter at all!!! It is surely MARGARINE!! I couldn’t take off the smell out off my hands. And also I took matcha latte, one of the worst ever, too sweet and the quality of green tea powder was really low. I won’t give it another chance.
This café is really amazing. I recommend this place for the quality of the cakes, the timeless atmosphere of a place that adds all the Japanese qualities that you probably already know with a touch of mystery. Go to the second store (2 kai) and if you are lucky some Japanese people will come in Yukata. You are right next to the Nippori station that you will reach by crossing through a cemetery garden and three temples within a splendid bouddha. So, close to Ueno and Nippori, I recommend this wonderful café for a travel in the time and in space.
Perfect little spot to have breakfast and coffee to start our Tokyo trip. The food was fresh and so tasty (get the egg salad sandwich) and the coffee was really, really good. Would’ve loved to have more! There was a line, but we were seated quickly.
The queue for this café is always pretty long and the average lining time is 15 minutes. But it’s worth the wait!Quite, relaxing café, peaceful atmosphere. Great.Today to drink I had a roasted nuts coffee. The sweetness and the nutty notes made it kind of hard to get the original taste of the coffee, but all the flavours were balanced and the drink itself was definitely pleasant. The egg sandwich here is simply terrific. Delicious Japanese style omelette with mayonnaise and fresh, soft, yummy bread. Perfect match. All served with chicken based soup (which I didn’t try) and salad. The vegetables sandwich is also great. Fresh tomatoes, cucumber and lettuce plus a nice sauce. All the flavours are properly balanced.Recommended!!
If you go early in the morning you avoid the line. Its worth standing in line because it has great coffee
Very cozy café! The dishes are very delicous and the prices reasonable. English speaking staff ðŸ‘ðŸ»
This coffee shop uses an old Japanese house. The 2nd floor has all Japanese mat, so you can feel how Japanese house was before.
Loved the coffee and ambience, and I'm very particular about my coffees.
Love this place. Off beaten path. If you're early you can find a place upstairs and enjoy your morning coffee. çˆç²
The deal with one drink and one sandwich 100Â¥ off is bogus, the owner wouldn't let the deal stand. Coffee isn't anything special for 450Â¥
My first kissaten experience and a great one too. Very nice coffee and cake in an atmospheric setting. Helpful and friendly staff. Small and charming place in a lovely neighbourhood.
Cosy place! Great espresso too. Take a shot and check it out!
Good place for breakfast, good filter coffee as well. Located in not so busy area and nice neighborhood around.
It is a cosy cafe with tatami on the second floor. The cakes were delicious and the price is reasonable. However, you might have to wait outside of the cafe as it might be full. We waited for about ten minutes for some seat place. The second floor is really unique as you are sitting on the tatami and not on a chair.
An old fashion or traditional design cafe. The staff are so nice and friendly. Food is simple but good. Not too pricy. Sit on the second floor so that you can enjoy the tatami and sunlight :)
Egg sandwich is delicious. Also cafe taste good. Old Japanese style wood building with second floor with Tatami.
Cute little cafe in Yanaka! The egg sandwich is delicious . Great atmosphere and friendly staff .
This slightly updated vintage coffee house is a local institution. The well preserved building features table seating downstairs and tatami seating upstairs. A small but solid selection of coffee drinks is accompanied by a small for menu with sandwiches and desserts.
Very good coffee and great egg sandwich.
It is a very cute antique cafe with over 80 years history tucked away in the Ueno prefecture, a short walk from Nezu station. They have English menu and English speaking staff, very nice coffee, ham sandwich and egg sandwich are very tasty too, I would highly recommend this place if you are in the Ueno area. Definitely not your everyday Starbucks coffee.
I never thought this cafe is popular among the tourist, because i need to wait the waiting list in this cafe. But, it's worth to wait some time to enjoy the delicious egg sandwich (recommended menu) and others fresh beverages here. The place itself brings relax and calmness. They have Japanese style living room on their second floor, and it's so cozy to enjoy your day while shipping your coffee
